Cold year is an intriguing piece that delves into all three artists’ sincere feelings about the year 2020. A different and life-altering period globally was characterized by a few new challenges (government restrictions) that people from all walks of society overcame or still dealing with differently. The single expresses the difficulties of coping with the loss of loved ones, ethnic self-hatred, the destructive dependence on status symbols, and the uncertainty of the public towards information shared by the media during the pandemic. Nkumbu’s astounding tranquil execution on the track’s chorus is wonderfully ferried by producer Stone’s orchestral strings and well-paced cinematic build accompanied by a message motivating us to take courage in the metaphor “. . . but I still see a light through my window” as we prepare for what is ahead.
